La Magdalena (Vega Moragona) is a cooperative society founded in Casas de Haro (Cuenca) in 1958 after the union of 60 local winegrowers, which today number 290. This firm, part of the D.O. Ribera del Júcar, boasts an extraordinary viticultural heritage: 1,600 hectares of its own vineyards, with varieties such as tempranillo (the majority), bobal, syrah, cabernet sauvignon, garnacha, and merlot, as well as the white varieties airén, macabeo, and moscatel de grano menudo. In recent years, it has made a significant qualitative leap by incorporating the latest winemaking technologies, as well as equipping itself with an aging facility where American and French oak barrels rest.
La Magdalena has impressed with its exceptional tempranillo reds, born from old dry-farmed vines. These reds exhibit a close connection to the terroir and reflect the unique characteristics of the region's gravelly soils, highly praised by the world's most influential wine critic, Robert Parker. La Magdalena focuses on red varieties in a region traditionally dominated by white grapes.
