1990s: Rioja experiences a period of creative effervescence that many describe as a 'revolution.' A group of winemakers distances themselves from certain prevailing practices, such as industrial viticulture and wines produced disconnected from the vineyard. The new philosophy focuses on the vineyard and the expressiveness of the terroir. Among the protagonists of this change is Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, who in 1995 starts his personal project: Finca Allende, established in Briones, where he finds the unique terroir he had always dreamed of. Here, he acquired small plots of old vineyards and established his own model: highly structured wines based on the “expressiveness of the terroir” and the uniqueness of each plot. This is how Aurus, Calvario… red wines elevated to the pinnacle of Spanish wine, were born, where they remain today.
Finca Nueva, located in Navarrete, is his second winery in Rioja. A project distinct from Finca Allende, with its own personality. "It began in 2004, when I missed having a space where I could unleash my creativity and where the labels were not constrained by consumer loyalty; to have freedom. In some way, I wanted to democratize high-quality wines," explains Miguel Ángel de Gregorio about the origin of Finca Nueva. The founding date of the winery is set in 2014, when he acquired the facilities of the now-defunct Bretón winery. At Finca Nueva, he produces 1 million bottles annually, using 74 hectares of his own vineyards and an additional 200 hectares under management.
