Domaine Jean Grivot is one of the great wineries of Burgundy. The winemaker Étienne Grivot took over from his father Jean at the helm of the estate in 1987, becoming the fifth generation of the family devoted to viticulture.
The vineyard of Domaine Jean Grivot spans 15 hectares, mostly located in Vosne-Romanée, where the winery's facilities are also situated.
The vines are between 45 and 50 years old and are spread across a total of 19 plots. Three of these are classified as Grand Cru, one of them being the origin of the renowned Clos de Vougeot, one of the most highly regarded pinot noir reds of Burgundy. For its production, as well as for the other wines of the domaine, Étienne Grivot prioritizes agriculture with minimal environmental impact, avoiding the use of chemicals and opting for the most traditional practices possible, including the use of horses.
In the winery, the aging of the wines is always carried out in oak barrels from the forests of Allier and Nièvre, with the proportion of new wood varying depending on the characteristics of each vintage. This aspect reflects the personalized winemaking approach practiced by Grivot, resulting in very singular and unique wines that are refined, aromatic, deep, and produced in limited quantities.
