El Coto de Rioja is a historic winery that exemplifies like few others the spectacular development of Spanish wine in the last quarter of the 20th century. Founded in 1970 by a group of enthusiasts with some experience in the sector, it came under the ownership of the Grupo Barón de Ley, chaired by El Coto's manager, Eduardo Santos Ruiz. This new stage was undoubtedly the most fruitful for the winery, making it one of the leading names of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin.
The facilities of El Coto de Rioja are among the most spectacular in the entire Designation, covering a total of 120,000 m2. The winery produces 25 million kilos of grapes annually to craft a range of wines that currently includes nine references: El Coto Blanco, Rosado, and Crianza; El Coto de Imaz Reserva and Gran Reserva; Coto Real, Coto Mayor, Coto Selección Aniversario, and Coto Vintage.
