Château Nénin is one of the largest wineries in Pomerol and the only one of the three owned by Jean-Hubert Delon located on Bordeaux's right bank, specifically in the municipality of Libourne.
Although the origin of the estate dates back to the mid-18th century, it is considered to have gained prominence starting in 1847 under the stewardship of the Despujol family. In 1997, Jean-Hubert Delon acquired the estate, integrating it into the group that also includes Château Potensac in Médoc and Château Léoville-Las Cases in Saint-Julien.
Under Delon's management and with the consultancy of the winemaker Michel Rolland, Château Nénin underwent a profound restructuring, which included planting new vines, modernizing equipment, and renovating and expanding the winery facilities.
The Château Nénin vineyard spans an area of 32 hectares, divided into only two plots, making it one of the largest in the A.O.C. Pomerol. These dimensions allow for some variety in soil composition, ranging from alluvial gravel to clay, as well as quartz, granite, and basalt rocks. As in the rest of the appellation, Merlot is the dominant variety in its vineyard (76%), followed by Cabernet Franc (23%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%). From these vines, with an average age of 28 years, they select the finest fruits to produce their grand vin, named after the estate itself, as well as the red wine Fugue de Nénin. It is worth noting that although it is not classified, like the rest of Pomerol's wines, Château Nénin is considered one of the finest and most exquisite in the A.O.C.
