Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is a winery located in the commune of Talence, north of Graves and just a few kilometers from the city of Bordeaux. Both its name and foundation trace back to the Vincentian monks, members of the Congregation of the Mission, created by Saint Vincent de Paul, who cultivated vineyards on its lands from 1682 until the French Revolution. After that, the estate passed through various hands until, in 1983, the company Domaine Clarence Dillon, which also owns the neighboring Château Haut-Brion, acquired it.

La Mission Haut-Brion, classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1953, spans 30 hectares of vineyards, 27 planted with the red varieties cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc, and 3 with the white varieties semillon and sauvignon blanc. These vines share the same gravelly soils, small quartz stones, clay, and sand as its sibling château Haut-Brion. This proximity ensures that its wines rival the premiers grands crus of the 1855 Bordeaux classification. Its remarkable fruit intensity, texture, and silky tannins have earned it the highest praise from the specialized press, propelling it to the pinnacle of wines, having achieved no less than seven 100-point Parker scores, the latest being with Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2016.
