Château Fuissé is one of the most emblematic estates in southern Burgundy and a historical landmark of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Located in the heart of the village of Fuissé, in the Mâconnais region, the château has belonged to the Vincent family since 1862 and embodies a vision of excellence, family continuity, and a deep understanding of the Burgundy terroir.
The modern winemaking history of Château Fuissé began in 1862 with the acquisition of the estate by Claude Bulland. Since then, five generations of the Vincent family have managed the estate, each bringing innovation while remaining true to tradition. Jacques Vincent-Bulland was one of the co-founders of the Pouilly-Fuissé AOC in 1922, solidifying the château's role in the appellation's history.
Since 2003, Antoine Vincent, the current director and winemaker, represents the fifth generation. Trained in agronomy and oenology, Antoine has fostered an even more precise understanding of the estate's diverse climates, strengthening the winery's international prestige and leading the recognition of the Premiers Crus de Pouilly-Fuissé, formalized in 2020.
The Château Fuissé vineyard covers approximately 40 hectares spread across more than one hundred plots, a true work of viticultural artistry typical of Burgundy. These plots are distributed across five appellations: Pouilly-Fuissé (approx. 25 ha), Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Villages, Mâcon-Fuissé, Bourgogne Blanc, and Juliénas in Beaujolais. Chardonnay is the dominant variety in Mâconnais, while Juliénas is cultivated with Gamay. The jewel of the estate is Le Clos, a 2.7-hectare walled vineyard surrounding the château. This historic climat, planted with vines ranging from 40 to over 90 years old, was recognized in 2020 as a Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru and is one of the few monopoles within the appellation. Its complex soil stratification—colluvial clays, marls, and Batonian limestones—allows for an exceptionally deep, long-lasting, and balanced expression of Chardonnay. The Vincent family practices environmentally conscious viticulture, based on manual labor, rigorous yield control, and respect for biodiversity. Each plot is cultivated and harvested separately to preserve its identity, allowing for an extremely precise interpretation of the terroir in each vintage. In the winery, Château Fuissé's philosophy seeks a balance between tradition and modernity. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed, with fermentations carried out plot by plot. Depending on the climate and vintage, the wines are made and aged in stainless steel tanks, French oak barrels, or a combination of both. Working on the fine lees is a constant practice, contributing texture, depth, and aging potential. In iconic cuvées like Le Clos, aging can take place with a significant proportion of new oak barrels, always carefully controlled to avoid masking the mineral expression and natural balance of the Chardonnay. Château Fuissé wines are characterized by their precision, controlled richness, and pronounced minerality. They combine breadth and elegance, with an aging potential that places the best cuvées on par with great white wines from the Côte de Beaune. The range includes key wines from Pouilly-Fuissé such as Tête de Cuvée, Les Combettes, and the Premiers Crus Le Clos and Les Brûlés, as well as wines from Saint-Véran, Mâcon, and the Signature Vincent. Each wine faithfully reflects its origin, from approachable, food-friendly expressions to cuvées of great complexity and longevity.
