Château Fleur Cardinale

Although there are records confirming that as early as 1819 there were vineyards and buildings in Thibeaud, the place where the current winery stands today, it was not until 1975 that the name Château Fleur Cardinale appeared for the first time. This became the name of the estate purchased by Jean-Louis Obissier, the son of the mayor of Villerouge-Termenes, in the commune of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, east of Saint-Émilion.

But if there is a key year in the recent history of this winery, it is 2001. Dominique Decoster, a former porcelain manufacturer in Limoges, and his wife Florence purchased the property, thus beginning a project that, in a short time, has placed Château Fleur Cardinale, due to its quality, among the most interesting names on Bordeaux's right bank.

The expertise of the winery team, with the experienced guidance of Jean-Luc Thunevin, creator of the garage wine movement in Bordeaux and owner of the neighboring Château Valandraud, led it to achieve the rank of Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion in 2006, later revalidated in 2012.

Château Fleur Cardinale extends its vines over nearly 23.5 hectares, divided into 57 individually worked plots through sustainable viticulture. These plots feature up to seven different types of soils, although there is a clear predominance of the clay and limestone so characteristic of the A.O.C. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. The vineyard has an average age of 38 years and is primarily planted with merlot (75%), cabernet franc (20%), and cabernet sauvignon (5%). From this, the estate produces its grand vin, Château Fleur Cardinale, and two other wines, all of which are powerful and elegant reds that stand out as a faithful expression of a unique terroir.
