Château Climens

The Château Climens is the leading producer in the Barsac appellation, a region located 30 km southeast of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Garonne River and slightly upstream from the renowned Sauternes. The word Climens means "poor and infertile land." In the 17th century, the Roborel family began viticulture on the estate, producing both white and red wines. In 1855, Henri Gounouilhou purchased the property, and Climens was classified as Premier Cru. Since 1992, it has been managed by Bérénice Lurton. Climens gained worldwide fame when the international wine guru, American Robert Parker, awarded its Château de Climens 2001 a perfect score of 100 points, the highest category.
