In 1947, it was founded as a cooperative driven by the initiative of seven vignerons from the Reims area who owned Grands and Premier Crus lands. A year later, they launched the brand we now know as the Grand Crus de Champagne society, an entity with very strict requirements for the incorporation of new members. Champagne Palmer & Co. has since become one of the most renowned French wineries, distinguished by the exceptional quality of its vineyards and the champagnes they produce.
Palmer & Co. has a total of 415 hectares of vineyards. Of these, more than 200 are classified as Grands and Premiers Crus, spread across the Montagne de Reims, the historic area where the region's first vines were planted; the Côte de Sézanne; the Côte des Bar; and the Marne Valley. In this exceptional mosaic, the maison cultivates pinot noir, pinot meunier, and chardonnay varieties, following the principles of sustainable viticulture.
Several unique features set Champagne Palmer & Co. apart from other houses in the region, including its commitment to long aging on lees for its champagnes; the production of still wine, used for its rosé and reserve wines, employing the solera system; and the use of large formats, such as the 15-liter Nabuchodonosor size, where the second fermentation takes place in the bottle itself, a practice that is almost unique in Champagne.
