Champagne Canard-Duchêne is a winery that combines family tradition and the identity of Champagne. Victor Canard (cooper) and Léonie Duchêne (daughter of a winegrower) founded the champagne house of the same name, Canard-Duchêne, in Ludes in 1868. From their hometown, they embarked on this project together with the goal of showcasing the potential of this hillside located in the very heart of the Montagne de Reims.
An estate named after its creators, stretching between vineyards and nature in the municipality of Reims. It is a unique location, as on this plateau overlooking the Champagne plain, the landscape is divided between forests of rare species and vineyards on gentle slopes. A paradise and an exceptional terroir.
The true oenological heritage of the French house lies in the quality of its pinot noir. A quality favored by the soil of the Montagne de Reims, which is the result of 70 million years of evolution, creating a unique combination of chalk, sand, clay, and limestone. It is to this pinot noir, to its power and elegance, that Champagne Canard-Duchêne owes its entire style. This variety provides structure to the wine, enhancing its fruity notes: cherry, sour cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, strawberry, raspberry.
The figure of its head winemaker is key to the destiny of the winery. Laurent Fédou is a true artisan of champagne. He works by instinct and experiments a lot. This is his way of reinterpreting champagnes and creating new ones.
After a century and a half of history, in 2004, Maison Canard-Duchêne joined the Alain Thiénot group, owner of the Champagne Thiénot brand, as well as Champagnes Joseph Perrier and Marie Stuart.
