Casalobos

Casalobos came to life in 2004 thanks to the drive of Manolo Sanchís, a legend of Real Madrid who, having just retired from his football career, decided to fulfill his dream of creating a wine that met his expectations as a devoted wine lover. His encounter with the renowned winemaker Ignacio de Miguel facilitated the project’s development, following the logical order that should be adhered to in such cases: capital, vineyard, and winery.

Sanchís and de Miguel led a group of 16 pioneering partners –now more than 20- which included, among others, some friends from the world of football (Aitor Karanka and the rest of the members of the Quinta del Buitre except for Miguel Pardeza), sports in general (Antonio Martín, “Pato” Clavet), or music (Miguel Bosé). A thorough soil study revealed the possibility of selecting a 35-hectare plot at the foot of the Sierra de Casalobos, in Picón (Ciudad Real), and the project for the vineyard’s location and planting was entrusted to the renowned engineer José Ramón Lissarrague. The winery, designed by the prestigious Madrid-based architecture studio Sancho-Madridejos, was inaugurated in October 2008, the same year the second vintage (2005) of their wine was released to the market, which has been considered since its debut as one of the brands with the best quality-price ratio in the country.
