Carranco

The encounter between Borgogno and Tornatore gave birth, in 2018, to the Carranco winery. A partnership between two wineries that combines history, experience, and roots in Etna. Two names with the common goal of producing great wines, pure expressions of their land of origin.

Borgogno is the oldest winery in Barolo and currently represents one of the most relevant and historic producers in Langhe and Barolo. On the other hand, Tornatore, founded in Castiglione di Sicilia, is one of the few local producers still remaining in Etna. Their joint venture culminates in the Carranco project.

The Etna volcano is the true protagonist of the wines and the winery itself. It is a unique and distinctive territory, with a strong identity, ideal for producing high-quality wines.

The Etna wines of Carranco are produced with vines that have always been cultivated on the slopes of the volcano. Their vineyards are located at over 500 meters above sea level and are planted on black soil rich in minerals, ash, and volcanic sands.

The estate covers 8 hectares of vineyards, cultivating native Etna varieties such as nerello mascalese, nerello cappuccio, and carricante. These vineyards are approximately 50 to 60 years old, using sustainable farming methods with absolute respect for tradition and nature. Additionally, part of the vineyards is still cultivated using a very ancient method: the "plantón." As expected, their wines are also crafted with vinification techniques tied to local tradition.
