Bodegas y Viñedos Ortega Fournier

The winemaking journey of the Ortega Gil-Fournier family began in the year 2000. Shortly after, in 2002, they acquired a winery built in 1979 in Berlangas de Roa (Burgos) with the aim of developing an ambitious project that would become a benchmark in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. This is how Bodegas y Viñedos Ortega Fournier was born. The facilities and vineyards are located in Finca El Pinar, a high plateau at 800 meters above sea level in a meander of the Duero River, where they cultivate 50 hectares of vines, some of which are over 60 years old.

The variety of soils it hosts (alluvial, sandy, and clayey) makes this estate a very interesting natural space. In general terms, the soils are poor in organic matter; this, combined with other factors such as the age of the vines and planting density, limits yields (less than 4,000 kg/ha) and promotes the production of high-quality grapes. Additionally, the significant temperature fluctuations due to the altitude of Finca El Pinar favor the production of wines with intense color and structure, suitable for aging in oak barrels.

Bodegas y Viñedos Ortega Fournier owns a total of 65 hectares of vineyards spread across the areas of Berlangas de Roa and Roa de Duero, with discreet, clean, and orderly facilities, featuring a barrel park dominated by French oak. Urban is their entry-level wine; furthermore, the winery has developed brands to compete in the high-end segment, such as Alfa Spiga and the top-tier O. Fournier. In total, they produce around 250,000 bottles annually, of which 70% are destined for the international market.
