Bodegas y Viñedos La Mejorada originates from the Monastery of the same name, built in the 15th century in Olmedo by Prince Don Fernando de Trastámara. The War of Independence and later the Mendizábal confiscations ended the cultural splendor of the Jerónimos, and the Monastery passed into private hands.
In 1999, Bodegas y Viñedos de La Mejorada acquired the remains of the Monastery and its 140 hectares, beginning an intensive effort that included the restoration of the building (led by Rafael Moneo, the future owner of the winery) and the planting of vineyards. Five years later, the winery, featuring ten 12,500-liter tanks, two “always full” tanks, and a barrel cellar, was already installed within the remains of the cloister.
