Bodegas y Viñedos del Mediterráneo, better known as Altos del Cuadrado, is the project of the Castaño family in Jumilla. This Denomination of Origin from Murcia, blessed a few years ago by the American critic Robert Parker, is the kingdom of monastrell, a grape variety that, when well-handled, can deliver excellent results.
At Altos del Cuadrado, the Castaño family not only cultivates monastrell but also syrah, petit verdot, and cabernet sauvignon, three foreign varieties that have adapted very well to the warm climate of Jumilla. Currently, the winery produces two wines: Altos del Cuadrado (a coupage of monastrell, petit verdot, and cabernet sauvignon) and Altos del Cuadrado Triple V (“Viñedos Viejos en Vaso”), made with monastrell and petit verdot and aged for 14 months in American and French oak barrels.
