Bodegas de la Marquesa is one of those wineries that carries the history of Rioja wine in its DNA, as it was one of the pioneers in producing quality wines in this region following Bordeaux methods. Founded in 1880 by the Marqués de La Solana (great-grandfather of the current owners), it has remained linked to the same family ever since. The Simón family currently crafts highly regarded and limited-production wines using only grapes from their own vineyards: 65 hectares.
The 65 hectares of vineyards of Bodegas de la Marquesa stretch across the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria, in the area of Villabuena de Álava (Rioja Alavesa). The winery has a stock of 2,300 French and American oak barrels and today stands as a magnificent example of a family-run winery where tradition (present in the underground cellars) coexists with cutting-edge technology at the service of winemaking. The result is a modern Rioja, respectful of the values that made it famous over a century ago.
