Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri

Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri

On a beautiful estate in Labastida lies Granja Nuestra Señora de Remellu, the winery that, alongside Contino, revolutionized Rioja Alavesa in the 1970s, ahead of its time and presenting itself as “the first château of Rioja,” with vineyards and a winery on the same estate. Its wines broke away from the classic concept to embrace a more modern, fruit-forward, and for many, more elegant profile. The winery is surrounded by history, as it is located in what was a medieval village from the 10th century (where a wine press is still preserved); in the 14th century, the Hieronymite monks established a monastic farm here, dependent on the Toloño sanctuary, where viticultural activity has been recorded since the 16th century.

After several changes in ownership, the winery Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri began its journey in 1968 when it was acquired by Jaime Rodríguez and Amaya Hernandorena. At that time, this enclave had 20 hectares of old vineyards. Today, the winery is managed by the second generation, represented by Telmo Rodríguez, a national figure who combines his work at the family estate with his own company (Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez). The estate is protected from winds and frosts and enjoys an exceptional microclimate that benefits 90 hectares of vineyards, divided into countless small plots at the foot of Mount Toloño, and cultivated organically.
