Bodegas Olvena

Bodegas Olvena

The D.O. Somontano is an example of dynamism and constant renewal, characterized by the high quality and diversity of its wines. A hallmark that has placed it among the most prominent winemaking regions in Spain. From the new wineries that are key players in Somontano's current success, Bodegas y Viñedos Olvena has emerged strongly. A modern and promising winery that has surprised with wines full of personality, which have already earned a place among the best. Olvena is one of the wineries with the greatest potential in the D.O. Somontano. It was founded in 1999 in Barbastro (Huesca), through the initiative of the Abbad family, entrepreneurs from different businesses and companies, some of them linked to agriculture and livestock in the Somontano. At the end of the nineties, they decided to start planting vineyards on a selection of their best estates. For two years, they visited countless vineyards and wineries around the world seeking a model that would serve as inspiration for one of their dreams: producing their own wine. Olvena carried out its first harvest in 2002 and was officially introduced in October 2005. A decade after its establishment, in the full momentum of its youth, we can already speak of a consolidated project. The locality of Olvena, a small village, was chosen to concentrate a large part of the vineyard, as its soil and climate conditions provide the optimal environment for planting the best vines selected in France and Spain. As a tribute to this land, the name of the municipality, Olvena, was chosen as the name for the wines and the winery. The winery is a tribute to modernity from a perspective that is absolutely respectful of the environment and the land it relies on. As a hallmark, the winery's image (both in its architecture and its labels) was designed by artist Isidro Ferrer (National Graphic Design Award 2002 and National Illustration Award 2005), who captured the spirit of the winery, creating a groundbreaking and modern image, with a distinctive graphic symbol: a tendril. Each wine has its own unique bottle, differentiated and adapted to the personality of the wine it contains. Olvena produces wines under particularly distinctive names (and full of meaning) such as Hache, named after the shape of one of their estates; Cuatro, derived from the number of grape varieties used in its production; or the young Chardonnay, recognized by the
