Bodegas D. Mateos has its origins in the year 1886, when a young couple from Aldeanueva de Ebro, in the heart of Rioja Baja, decided to plant a vineyard on the slopes of Mount Yerga. Today, the seventh generation of this family, led by Mateo Ruiz Moreno, heads a project that stands out for its more than 100 hectares of vineyards (65 ha owned and 35 ha managed). The new winery was built in 1999, and there Mateo and his team, in addition to producing their own wine, regularly collaborate on various R&D&I projects with the Research and Development Center of La Rioja.
Thus, the winery has a clear innovative approach, collaborating and developing R&D projects aimed at obtaining innovative products (tempranillo blanco, graciano, ...). The winery's vineyards extend through the subzone of Rioja Baja, in an area bordering Navarra and around the towns of Alfaro, Autol, and Rincón de Soto. The vines have an average age of 45 years and are planted both as bush vines and on trellises. For nearly a decade, the winery has been classifying its different vineyards, carrying out individualized vinifications and aging processes to understand the potential of each terroir. Today, it produces wines with a very distinct personality that express the qualities of the different soils and cultivation conditions.
