Own vineyards, old vines, and traditional style are the hallmarks of the family-owned Larchago winery, one of the oldest in Rioja Alavesa, and winner of numerous international awards in recent years. Bodegas Larchago is a family business founded in 1968 by the successors of Bodegas Chavarri from Lapuebla de Labarca (Álava). Since 1882, four generations of the Larchago family have cultivated their vineyards and produced their own wines, being the winery with the oldest registration number in Rioja Alavesa. It has two wineries: the oldest features a large area for aging wine in barrels, and the most modern, built in 1996, has an avant-garde design while maintaining the traditional winemaking process. Thanks to these aspects, Bodegas Larchago has received numerous international awards. Among the quality aspects that define the winemaking philosophy of the winery are: the management of its own vineyards, mainly of the Tempranillo variety, in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa); a privileged location of the vineyard, which promotes high-quality grapes; tradition and experience in winemaking, which ensures that each wine is unique and has its own personality. Additionally, an exhaustive analytical control allows monitoring the state of the wine throughout the entire process. The Crianzas and Reservas age in new French and American oak barrels, achieving a greater variety of aromas and flavors that guarantee the quality of the wines. Larchago works with the best winemakers in Rioja, and combined with knowledge and tradition, this results in modern wines of excellent quality, as evidenced by the awards won in recent years. The winery's philosophy in winemaking combines the know-how of tradition with a strong focus on modern wines. Their wines look to the future, aiming to satisfy the new tastes and palates of Rioja wine customers.
