Founded in 1999, Bodegas Estefanía is one of the key players in enhancing and putting a quality wine region like Bierzo on the global wine map. With its magnificent red wines made from the native mencía grape, it managed to capture the attention of the world’s leading wine critics towards this region in the past decade. The winemaker Raúl Pérez has been instrumental in the rapid rise of Bodegas Estefanía.

Now acclaimed as the creator of a long list of wines with excellent scores in the world’s most influential publications, Raúl Pérez -a native of Bierzo- began to make a name for himself at Bodegas Estefanía. Here, he established a model that many wineries later followed, which has helped Bierzo to consolidate itself as one of the most interesting wine-producing regions in the country.

Raúl Pérez crafts for Bodegas Estefanía red wines that are at the forefront of wine taste—refined, approachable, elegant, and profoundly complex—which have won over both the most demanding critics and the public, achieving a strong market position and an excellent image. These wines are made from mencía vineyards, many of which are cultivated with old bush-trained vines scattered across the most valued areas of the region, such as Pieros or Valtuille.
