Bodegas BSI (Bodegas Coop. San Isidro de Jumilla) was founded in 1934 following the union of hundreds of winegrowers. Today, it maintains its cooperative essence and has become the leading producer of wines from the D.O. Jumilla. It boasts an extensive heritage of 1100 hectares of vineyards, with an average age of 35 years, planted in the traditional goblet system of the region. These vineyards are hand-harvested and mostly worked organically.
BSI's success is based on the region's native variety, monastrell, but it also cultivates other varieties such as syrah, petit verdot, merlot, and tempranillo for reds; or verdejo, airén, and sauvignon blanc for whites. Additionally, it has the largest area of monastrell en pie franco, a true treasure—vines unaffected by the phylloxera plague, making them 100% monastrell from root to grape, without American rootstock.
The monastrell variety achieves its best results in Jumilla, a region with a dry and warm climate where the plant must struggle and yields low quantities of high-quality grapes, resulting in wines with great body and structure.
BSI combines tradition and innovation to produce a wide range of wines. A total of 7 million bottles, most of which are exported to the international market. Moreover, it is the most visited winery on the Jumilla Wine Route and a benchmark for wine tourism.
