Bodegas Bohórquez is one of the new-generation wineries established in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, highly responsible for the excellent reputation that the red wines from this Castilian geographical indication enjoy today.
Bohórquez was founded at the end of the last century when engineer Javier Bohórquez, originally from Jerez, left his homeland to harness the potential of one of the most important red wine-producing regions on the international scene: Ribera del Duero. A drastic change, from the sea breeze to the harshness of the continental climate that shapes the lands of Pesquera de Duero. A farewell to the albariza soils to embark on a journey in limestone-rich terrains.
It was in Pesquera de Duero, in the renowned pago de Valderramiro, where he found his purpose to express a unique identity in his winemaking initiative and where he built a winery with a clear Andalusian style, fully equipped. A project that involved working with the best vineyards of the native tinto fino or tempranillo, but which, from the beginning, also included the cultivation of enhancing varieties like cabernet sauvignon and merlot to complement the wines. As a result of this vision and the pursuit of a unique terroir, the wines of Bodegas Bohórquez began to capture the attention of international critics, largely due to the quality of the grapes grown in the 21 hectares of vineyards that Bohórquez cultivates at 900 meters above sea level, producing wines of great character and elegant freshness.
