Bodegas Barcolobo

Barcolobo is a small ‘boutique’ winery that produces high-quality wines with a unique typicity in the Riberas de Castronuño Vega del Duero nature reserve, located in the province of Valladolid. Its philosophy is to craft wines that express the particular conditions of this habitat, renowned for its exceptional wildlife and natural beauty. To achieve this, they work with great respect for the soil and vineyards.

The winery and vineyards are located in Finca La Rinconada. A place where the Isidro Rincón family aspired to revive the winemaking tradition. Thus, in 2001, their project began with the planting of vineyards in the most suitable plots and the restoration of an old warehouse, which was converted into a winery. Today, it is one of the few wineries that can boast of being situated within a nature reserve.

The vineyards cover 20 hectares surrounded by a forest of poplars, black poplars, willows, pines, holm oaks, and elms, along with a variety of aromatic plants near the Duero River. They cultivate the national variety tempranillo and the international varieties syrah and cabernet sauvignon.

The sandy and stony soils of these lands, combined with the continental climate influenced by the Atlantic, with cold winters and summers subject to extreme temperatures, favor the production of high-quality grapes known for their concentration.

During the winemaking process, they prioritize utmost care, with manual and selective harvesting in 15 kg boxes. The grapes are immediately transported to cold storage rooms to preserve their aromas. Then, the bunches go through a selection table. From there, they are destemmed, and the grapes, without crushing, are transferred by gravity to tanks. Each variety and plot is vinified separately to maintain its personality. For aging, they use only French oak barrels with selected toasts. The result is wines that stand out for their balance between fruit and wood.
