Pedro Candela began producing small quantities of wine locally in 1850. In 1925, his son, Antonio Candela García, founded the winery we now know as Bodegas Antonio Candela e Hijos. In the 1950s, the third generation of the family, represented by Antonio Candela Poveda, started purchasing grapes from small local growers to combine with their own, increasing production. Since 1999, the winery has been managed by the fourth generation: Alfredo and Antonio Candela.
Bodegas Antonio Candela produces table wine and bottled wine under the D.O. Yecla. It boasts valuable monastrell vineyards that are 70 years old, divided into ‘microplots.’ Their wines reflect the tradition passed down through generations. Additionally, the Candela family owns the Barahonda winery, with both wineries located in Yecla.
