Bodega Rento

The journey of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera towards the elite of international winemaking has been meteoric. Since its inaugural vintage, the exceptional 1995, which received international recognition thanks to one of its reds being proclaimed the best wine in the world, the winery group has been extending its roots to other production areas and gaining prominence due to the invaluable work of its creator and alma mater, Carlos Moro. One of the first projects and, undoubtedly, one of the most personal endeavors of Carlos Moro is Bodega Rento.

The creator of Matarromera saw the potential of an estate that had belonged to the family since the 19th century, although the original noble house dates back to the 16th century and was built by order of the Marquis of Olivares. After restoring the buildings to house the current winery, Rento entered the market with the 2000 vintage. The winery has two vineyards: Hito Corto (2.2 hectares) and Picón de Zurita (2.6 ha), the latter located on a meander of the Duero River, at 725 meters of altitude, where the oldest vines owned by Carlos Moro in Ribera del Duero grow. Meanwhile, Hito Corto is the only vineyard he owns on the southern left bank of the Duero River, specifically in Quintanilla de Arriba, and no chemical products are used in its care.
