Bodega del Jardín

The history of Bodega del Jardín is the story of a resurrection. In 1843, in Cascante (Navarra), Martín Guelbenzu laid the foundation stone of what would become an important family saga of winemakers. The winery was named M. M. De Guelbenzu e Hijos, marking a significant shift in local wine production, moving from the typical rural style of the region to prestige, as this first Guelbenzu winemaker presented his wines at the 1st Universal Exhibition in London in 1851. He won several medals at exhibitions in Navarra, Bordeaux, and achieved the Gold Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona in 1888. Later, his son Miguel, a Chemistry graduate from the Sorbonne in Paris, moved the winery to its current location and renamed it Bodega del Jardín. In 1980, the eight Guelbenzu siblings (lawyers, doctors, a painter, and an archaeologist), together with their father, decided to relaunch the winery, continuing the family’s winemaking tradition. Guelbenzu became one of the most dynamic and high-quality wineries of the D.O. Navarra. Later, it expanded internationally, producing wines in Chile as well as in Aragón, under the label Indicación Geográfica Vino de la Tierra Ribera del Queiles. In the autumn of 2009, Bodegas Guelbenzu sold the Aragón winery along with the Guelbenzu brands. At this moment, the original name of Bodegas del Jardín was revived, focusing on the 23 original hectares of old vineyards in Cascante and the cherished family winery, where the fifth generation of the Guelbenzu family produces three new red wines with a distinctly attractive Iberian character: deeply colored, intensely aromatic, flavorful, balanced, and rounded wines.
