Founded in 1870, Balthasar Ress is one of the most important wineries in the Rheingau region, birthplace of some of Germany's finest white wines. Born from the warmth of an old inn (now converted into a hotel and a restaurant), the family-owned winery has a total of 46 hectares of vineyards, planted on south-facing slopes sheltered from the wind, which contributes to the excellent quality of its riesling grapes.
The meticulous manual selection of the right grapes and a careful, unhurried production process make Balthasar Ress wines among the most appreciated in the Rheingau region, both by the public and specialized critics. Their great aging potential, which can extend for decades, is one of their hallmarks, and their indisputable quality led the winery to become, in 1989, a member of the VDP (Prädikat Wine Estates), an exclusive association that brings together Germany's finest winemakers.
