Altos de Rioja

Altos de Rioja was founded in 2006 as a result of an alliance between winemaker Roberto San Ildefonso (Bodegas Sobreño, D.O. Toro) and oenologist Bienvenido Muñoz (Finca Muñoz, D.O. La Mancha), responsible for iconic wines such as the excellent Blas Muñoz Chardonnay. The addition to the project of Jean-Marc Sauboua, one of the few oenologists who can boast of having worked at the legendary Bordeaux winery Château Haut-Brion, completed a stellar team that began to bear fruit from the very beginning.

Located in Laguardia, Altos de Rioja manages over 80 hectares at the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria, 650 meters above sea level. The vineyard—mainly tempranillo with some graciano vines—is cultivated on alluvial soils where limestone is complemented by gravel and silt. Altos de Rioja exports the majority of its production to countries such as England, Germany, and the United States.
