Lanzarote

Lanzarote

The municipalities of Arrecige, Tinajo, Yaia, San Bartolomé, Haría, and Teguise make up the production area on the island of Lanzarote. The area known as La Geria stands out.

Climate
Of a dry subtropical type with very scarce rainfall (barely 200 mm per year). The Levante winds, with low humidity, carry suspended dust from Africa, causing a considerable increase in temperatures. The average temperatures range from 16 to 24 ºC.
Soil
Of volcanic type (called "picón" volcanic sand, which retains moisture from dew water and the scarce rains, making vine cultivation possible). The vine is cultivated in characteristic hollows, which protect the vine from the influence of the strong trade winds, with a semicircular stone wall built around it to further reinforce that protection against the trade winds. Due to this particular planting method, the vineyard areas are very large, although the density is very low.
