Barón de Ley Reserva is a modern-style Rioja with a Mediterranean soul, notable power, and yet does not compromise on the elegance and harmony characteristic of the region. The Gran Reserva represents that category of Riojas where long aging is carried out to achieve wines of great longevity and complexity, requiring a careful selection of ideal grapes. Finca Monasterio, on the other hand, is a wine crafted in the vineyard, where the winemaker exercises humility, allowing the essence of the wine—the grape—to take center stage.
Professional career
The Group began its journey in 1985 with the creation of the winery of the same name, Barón de Ley, at the Finca de Imas in Mendavia, located in the Navarre part of La Rioja Baja. The 16th-century Benedictine Monastery located on the estate recently became the Group's headquarters after more than two decades of restoration. The definitive consolidation came in 1991 with the acquisition of the winery El Coto de Rioja and the company’s stock market listing in 1997. The turn of the century saw the completion of two new projects: Finca Museum in Cigales and Bodegas Máximo in Rioja. In 2004, the Group founded Dehesa Barón de Ley in Cáceres (a winery dedicated to curing Iberian pork products) and Viñedos Barón de Ley, a company managing all the Group's wine-growing operations.
