In 1979, the couple Francisco Uribes and Celia Madero made a significant change in their lives. After leaving their respective professional careers, they acquired the La Calzadilla estate in Huete, in the Alcarria region of Cuenca, with the goal of making their dream come true: producing wines. Shortly after, they began planting vineyards, and in 1992, they produced their first wine. Currently, Paula Uribes, the couple's daughter, leads the winemaking efforts of the family winery. Uribes Madero is one of the few Spanish wineries recognized with the “Vino de Pago” designation, the highest quality category, which allows them to produce wines under their own Denomination of Origin: “Pago Calzadilla.”
