Professional career
Ismael Arroyo, recently deceased, was one of the key figures behind the significant international success achieved by Ribera del Duero wines over the past 35 years. Coming from a family dedicated to winemaking for four centuries, this bodeguero spearheaded the creation of the D.O. in 1982, and since then, set a benchmark through the Valsotillo brand.
The family winery (Bodegas Ismael Arroyo) is located in Sotillo de la Ribera, in the province of Burgos, and is currently managed by his descendants: the siblings Miguel A. Arroyo, Ramón Arroyo, and Marisa Arroyo.
