Professional career
Six wineries and a portfolio of brands that play in the top league of international wine are behind Grupo Sierra Cantabria, a family-owned company based in Rioja and led by the brothers Miguel Ángel Eguren, president (on the left in the photo), and Marcos Eguren, (vice president and winemaker). They represent the fourth generation of a lineage of Rioja winemakers: Amancio, born in 1870, was the first winemaker in the family. He was succeeded by his son Victorino, followed by Victorino's son Guillermo, the father of Marcos and Miguel Ángel. Recently, Marcos' son, the fifth generation, has also joined the family business.
Marcos Eguren joined the family winery Sierra Cantabria (founded in 1957) in 1980 and began the path towards high quality. Later, together with his brother Miguel Ángel, he launched a series of key projects in the revolution that shook Rioja wine in the 1990s, such as Señorío de San Vicente and Viñedos de Páganos.
