Barón de Ley Reserva is a modern-style Rioja with a Mediterranean soul, notable power, and a commitment to the elegance and harmony characteristic of the region. The Gran Reserva represents that category of Riojas where long aging processes are carried out, seeking wines of great longevity and complexity, which also require a careful selection of the ideal grapes. Finca Monasterio, on the other hand, is a wine crafted in the vineyard, where the winemaker performs an exercise in humility, allowing the essence of the wine—the grape—to take center stage.
Professional career
Eduardo Santos-Ruiz is the president of Barón de Ley.
The winery Barón de Ley (D.O.Ca. Rioja) was founded in 1985 by a small group of Rioja professionals who acquired the Imas estate, located in the municipality of Mendavia. Initially, 90 hectares of vineyards were planted. The winery's facilities were completed in the second half of the 1980s. The first bottles of Barón de Ley were presented to the public in 1990, and their success made it necessary to expand the initial project, which was fully configured in 1997 when the winery began trading on the stock exchange with 70% of its shares. The group also includes the wineries El Coto de Rioja and Finca Museum.
