Domingos Alves de Sousa

It is in Douro where Domingos Alves de Sousa brings his wines to life, following a family tradition initiated by his grandfather and now joined by his children. A Civil Engineering graduate, he could not resist the call of the land and blood, dedicating himself to the cultivation of the vineyards he had inherited and others he later acquired. For a long time, he was a supplier to some of the most prestigious Port export houses. However, the challenges that affected the sector in the late 1980s led him to view his vineyards differently and study their potential to produce not only Ports but also still wines, becoming a pioneer in crafting these in Douro. He was recognized as "Producer of the Year" in 1999 and again in 2006 by Portugal's most important wine magazine ("Revista de Vinhos"), becoming the first to receive the most prestigious distinction for a wine producer in Portugal twice.
