Tinta amarela

Also known as tricandeira, tinta amarela is a purple-skinned grape primarily used in the production of Port wines and some Portuguese red wines. It is typically cultivated in Douro, Dâo, and some wine-growing areas in Alentejo.

Young wines made from tinta amarela feature herbal notes, sometimes with a background of black tea. However, with some aging, they offer flavors of spicy blackberry.

Weaknesses
It is a variety that is difficult to cultivate, as its berries tend to rot due to the cold and humid winds of the Atlantic coast. The tinta amarela achieves an optimal level of ripeness in a short period of time.
