Boal
Although also present in the mainland territory of Portugal, boal is a grape variety primarily cultivated on the island of Madeira and often used in the production of fortified wines. Madeira wines made from boal are usually less sweet than those made from malvasía but sweeter than those made from sercial (cercial) or verdelho (verdejo).
