The I.G.P. Côtes de Gascogne refers to wines produced in the Gers department, located in the southwest of France. Officially recognized in 1982, the Protected Geographical Indication, with less stringent production requirements, complements the A.O.C.s of this region—Armagnac, Madiran, and Saint-Mont—resulting in high-quality wines at a more affordable price.
White wines dominate the production from the 15,000 hectares of vineyards in Côtes de Gascogne, with the most planted varieties being ugni blanc, petit manseng, sauvignon blanc, and sémillon. Wines from this I.G.P. made with these grape varieties rank among the most exported in the world.
