In Chile's largest wine-producing region, Valle de Maule, located 200 km south of Santiago de Chile, Ortega Fournier makes use of some of the country's oldest vineyards thanks to various agreements with winegrowers who offer low yields and exceptional quality.
Climate
The climate is continental with significant variations between day and night and between winter and summer. Rainfall is moderate, ranging from 400 to 600 mm per year. The harshness of the climate, with the aforementioned pronounced thermal differences and scarcity of rainfall, results in rather low grape yields and high quality of the harvested grapes.
Soil
In general, the soils found in the vineyards of Maule are varied, but predominantly stony, calcareous, sandy, and clayey. The vast majority are poor in organic matter, which facilitates the production of high-quality grapes.
