Central Ranges is one of the lesser-known areas of Australia, but in recent years it has earned a good reputation among the most prominent wine-producing regions of Australia. The region, located 130 kilometers west of Sydney, is divided into three subzones (Cowra, Orange, and Mudgee) ranging from 450 to over 1,000 meters above sea level. Wine has been produced here since the early 1980s, as the first vineyards were planted in the 1970s.
