Pioneer in the planting of vines in the Los Chacayes region – in the renowned Uco Valley –, François Lurton laid the foundation for what is now recognized as a Geographic Indication. In total, Piedra Negra has 99 hectares of vineyards in this area located 80 km south of Mendoza.
Although owner of the Los Chacayes brand, Lurton reached an agreement with local winegrowers to relinquish it, allowing it to become what it is today: a protected geographic indication that encompasses the wines of this small production area.
Climate
Continental in character, with a rainfall regime that does not exceed 300 mm annually. The greatest risk faced by the vineyards is hailstorms.
Soil
The diversity of gravels along with granite and volcanic rocks constitutes the most determining factor of these poor soils.
