Viña Sastre Pesus 2016 is the flagship wine of this renowned winery from Ribera del Duero, one of the emblematic regions of this Denomination of Origin. With very limited production, it is only made in exceptional vintages. Its name is the result of the fusion of Pedro and Jesús, its creators, who take part in the harvest of the vineyard from which Pesus is made. The most intimate and family-oriented wine of the winery and a true masterpiece.
Viña Sastre Pesus 2016 is the result of a vineyard over 100 years old located in the Valdecarmen and Bercial plots, in La Horra (Burgos), one of the most esteemed areas of Ribera del Duero. A powerful, complex, broad, balanced, and long-lasting red wine, with a long and intense future. It is, without a doubt, the ultimate representation of 21st-century Ribera.
For more than five decades, the Sastre family has been producing wines in the Burgos town of La Horra, in the heart of Ribera del Duero, that have earned them the prestige they enjoy today. The teamwork and entrepreneurial determination of all the men who have led the winery have turned Bodegas Hermanos Sastre into a benchmark. The family legacy inherited by Jesús Sastre, who currently runs the family business, is based on respect for the land (45 hectares of magnificent vineyards with vines over 50 years old), patience to create unique wines, and care and calmness to allow them to develop their own personality without commercial pressures.
Viña Sastre Pesus 2016 is the winery’s favorite child, the masterpiece of the Sastre brothers, and their most ‘family-oriented’ wine, with which they aim to symbolize several generations of the Sastre dynasty caring for the land. A red wine of which only 2,000 bottles are produced, and only in the best vintages. Since its first vintage in 1999, its quality has been recognized by tasters and critics worldwide. In addition to Pesus, Bodegas Hermanos Sastre produces other outstanding reds, such as Regina Vides and Pago de Santa Cruz.

Creators' opinion
This great wine presents a beautiful cherry-red color with garnet edges. On the nose, it is very powerful and complex, highlighting the ripeness of the grape with fruity aromas (prune) and toasted notes (roasted coffee, toffee) from the wood that embraces the wine. It has a mineral background (flint and slate) and spicy tones (cinnamon, pepper, and a hint of vanilla), menthol, woods, and aromatic herbs (sandalwood and thyme). On the palate, it is elegant, flavorful, very fruity, well-structured with noble tannins and gentle power, consistent, very expressive with sensations of fresh and stewed black fruits, cocoa, English chocolate, aromatic herbs, coffee bean, broad and very persistent. In short, it is a great wine, a true representative of our “terroir,” to be enjoyed now or in many years to come.
Hermanos Sastre is one of the most outstanding wineries in the country. A family-run business that carries the heritage of the first winemakers of Ribera del Duero. Its origins date back three generations, when Severiano Sastre invested in the vineyards of what is now one of the most noble areas of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: La Horra (Burgos).
Ribera del Duero began building an exceptional viticultural heritage, and in 1957 participated in the creation of the Cooperativa Virgen de la Asunción. His dream of creating his own winery was realized by his son Rafael. Thus, in 1992, Bodegas Hermanos Sastre was born, already gaining the support of Rafael's sons, Pedro and Jesús.
Today, Hermanos Sastre (better known as Viña Sastre) stands as a model winery on the international scene, producing wines ranked among the best in the country, such as Pesus, Regina Vides, or Pago de Santa Cruz. Its vineyard, spanning nearly 50 hectares, has an average age of half a century; and in the vineyards surrounding the winery - in the style of Bordeaux 'châteaux' - they practice organic and biodynamic farming, in line with a philosophy of utmost respect for the 'terroir'.
