General Information

Viña Sastre Pago de Santa Cruz 2021 is born in one of the most beautiful and privileged vineyards of La Horra, located at 814 meters above sea level. There, a handful of old vines over 80 years old provide the Sastre family with the tempranillo grapes needed to produce one of the most outstanding red wines crafted by this Ribera del Duero winery. Viña Sastre Pago de Santa Cruz is a magnificent single-varietal tempranillo, part of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, with an excellent quality-price ratio.

Better known as Viña Sastre, this veteran winery in La Horra has the privilege of producing an outstanding range of wines, including Pesus, Regina Vides, and the elegant Pago de Santa Cruz. The Sastre family saga dates back to the times when Severiano, grandfather of the current General Manager of the Ribera del Duero firm, Jesús, made wine in the underground caves of La Horra. His work was carried on by his son Rafael, who founded the current winery in 1992.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Bodegas Hermanos Sastre

Hermanos Sastre is one of the most outstanding wineries in the country. A family-run business that carries the heritage of the first winemakers of Ribera del Duero. Its origins date back three generations, when Severiano Sastre invested in the vineyards of what is now one of the most noble areas of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: La Horra (Burgos).

Ribera del Duero began building an exceptional viticultural heritage, and in 1957 participated in the creation of the Cooperativa Virgen de la Asunción. His dream of creating his own winery was realized by his son Rafael. Thus, in 1992, Bodegas Hermanos Sastre was born, already gaining the support of Rafael's sons, Pedro and Jesús.

Today, Hermanos Sastre (better known as Viña Sastre) stands as a model winery on the international scene, producing wines ranked among the best in the country, such as Pesus, Regina Vides, or Pago de Santa Cruz. Its vineyard, spanning nearly 50 hectares, has an average age of half a century; and in the vineyards surrounding the winery - in the style of Bordeaux 'châteaux' - they practice organic and biodynamic farming, in line with a philosophy of utmost respect for the 'terroir'.
