General Information

Viña Real Reserva Mágnum 2017 is an elegant and balanced coupage of tempranillo (90%), garnacha, graciano, and mazuelo made with manually harvested grapes from Rioja Alavesa. Aged for more than 18 months in barrels of French and American oak, once bottled, it remained for at least 18 more months refining in the impressive cellars of Viña Real, carved into the Cerro de la Mesa. A long, complex, meaty red wine with spectacular aging potential in the bottle, offering great freshness and excellent acidity.

Behind Viña Real is CVNE, one of the most solid wineries in the Rioja wine scene with significant international projection. Since 2004, the Viña Real brand has been vinified in an independent winery whose avant-garde facilities, designed by the prestigious architect Philippe Mazières, crown the Cerro de la Mesa in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa). Here, wines are conceived based on elegance and extraordinary aging potential, like this Viña Real Reserva Mágnum 2017, a wine under the D.O.Ca. Rioja, ideal for pairing with fish such as Donostian-style sea bream or tuna marmitako and also with grilled meats such as lamb chops.

Behind Viña Real stands one of the most solid names in the Rioja wine scene with significant international projection: CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España). The renowned French architect on the global stage, Philippe Mazières, was the person chosen by its leaders to capture the aesthetics of this century-old winemaking house in the new Viña Real winery, established in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa). Its philosophy was to seek a unique style that respected the winery's hallmarks, with a subtler character, evoking a more “Burgundian” profile in this new initiative.

CVNE (Haro, Rioja Alta) first launched the Viña Real brand on the market in 1920; however, at the end of the 20th century, it conceived the idea of creating a dedicated winery for this range and chose the subzone of Rioja Alavesa for this new project. Thus, the history of the Viña Real winery is relatively short: its facilities were inaugurated in 2004.

Viña Real combines tradition and modernity in its spectacular facilities made of concrete, wood, and stainless steel. This new building stands out visually for the enormous vat that dominates its structure, a space dedicated to winemaking. Next to it, two tunnels have been carved into the rock of Cerro de la Mesa (Rioja Alavesa), where the winery is located, designed for the aging of wines: one for barrels and another for bottles.
