Viña Olagosa Gran Reserva 2012 combines grapes from three Rioja Alta vineyards located in San Asensio, Rodezno and Haro. Tempranillo is the dominant ingredient, enhanced with a touch of Garnacha and Mazuelo: the classic Rioja blend.
The grapes were harvested in crates. Before entering the winery, they were sorted doubly: first in the vineyard, where only perfect bunches were picked, and subsequently inside the winery to select the berries. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation were carried out in 6500-litre French oak vats. The resulting wine was aged for 30 to 36 months in a combination of new and seminew Bordeaux barrels made of French and American oak. After bottling it was further matured for at least 24 months before being released for sale.
Perica is the nickname David García inherited from his grandfather. He runs the family firm located in the municipality of San Asensio (Rioja Alta), which has a long experience in oak-aged wines and has been registered with the regulatory council for more than half a century. The firm currently owns more than 150 hectares of vineyards in the best areas of Rioja Alta.
In 2011 Bodegas Perica moved into new facilities which boast the most innovative winemaking techniques. The main building is used for its acclaimed oak-aged wines and is equipped with a variety of barrels from different places such as France, America and eastern Europe.
Bearing in mind its organoleptic properties, Viña Olagosa Gran Reserva 2012 goes well with roast suckling pig or fillet of beef with truffles.
