General Information

In Viña Cerrada Reserva 2018 Tempranillo is combined with Graciano and Mazuelo to enhance its freshness and complexity. The grapes come from several estates, where the vines are cultivated according to quality criteria, ensuring smaller yields and seeking to achieve bunches with smaller berries.

Alcoholic fermentation for 10 days was followed by maceration with the skins for 8 days. Fermentation temperature of 28º C. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats. The wine was finally aged for 24 months in American and French (5%) oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months in the bottle before being released.

Founded in Haro in 1882, Bodegas Ugalde belongs to the thriving Príncipe de Viana group. The vineyard is also equipped with an irrigation system with stations to control the stress to which the plants are subjected and achieve greater concentration.

Viña Cerrada Reserva 2018 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with dishes like stewed lentils or Asturian beans (fabada). It’s just as good with red meats such as entrecote and is delicious with matured cheeses.

The winery

Bodegas Ugalde belongs to Rioja Vega, a company founded in 1882 by Felipe Ugalde in Haro. After a series of business ups and downs throughout the 20th century – including a name change – the company was acquired in the 1980s by Grupo Príncipe de Viana and definitively entered modernity.
