Valdechuecas Viñedo Singular 2021 originates from a small 1.16-hectare plot in Cárdenas, located in the heart of Alto Najerilla, at an altitude between 595 and 620 meters. Planted in 1912 and 1918, this century-old vineyard is rooted in clay-ferrous soils with conglomerate rock, on north-facing slopes with a 20% gradient. The main variety is garnacha tinta, though there are also scattered vines of tempranillo, viura, malvasía, graciano, and mazuelo, among others. Viticulture is manual, respectful, and avoids unnecessary interventions, aiming to preserve the natural balance of the environment.
The harvest was carried out manually. Fermentation took place in a 5000-liter concrete tank, with 15% whole clusters and the rest destemmed but not crushed. Fermentation was spontaneous, using native yeasts, and maceration lasted for 15 days. The resulting wine was aged for 12 months in a third-use 2400-liter French oak foudre, allowing for a slow and respectful evolution without masking the varietal qualities.
From its facilities in Alto Najerilla and the Sonsierra, Viñedos El Pacto is committed to ancestral viticulture, minimal intervention, and winemaking that respects the identity of each plot. Valdechuecas Viñedo Singular 2021 is the result of this philosophy, a vibrant rioja with fine tannins and a long finish, pairing perfectly with roasted meats, small game dishes, mushrooms, traditional stews, or aged cheeses.
Valdechuecas Viñedo Singular displays an intense red color, typical of garnacha cultivated in cold climates, and a high chromatic concentration, a reflection of the old vineyard from which it originates. Its appearance is clean and bright, with a barely evolved rim, a subtle testimony to its time in aging. On the nose, it offers profound aromatic complexity, the result of partial vinification with whole clusters in concrete tanks. This technique provides delicate vegetal nuances (grape stems) that intertwine with aromas of red and black fruit compote. Spices and a pronounced minerality are elegantly integrated, thanks to 12 months of aging in foudre, which imparts subtle reductive notes, evolving in the glass towards fresh fruit and balsamic hints. On the palate, the wine is vertical and vibrant, with marked acidity that faithfully reflects its origin in Alto Najerilla. Its tannic structure is fine and persistent, yet always wrapped in the characteristic gentleness of garnacha. It is a wine with great depth and aging potential, promising to reveal new layers of expression over time.
Viñedos El Pacto (Vintae group) focuses on producing wines from old vines in two areas with a long winemaking history: the Sonsierra and Alto Najerilla. They are committed to working organically, respecting nature and its life cycle to the fullest, and returning to ancestral cultivation methods practiced by previous generations of winegrowers.
Thus, they implement manual harvests, minimal intervention in the winemaking process, spontaneous fermentations, and respectful aging processes that allow the unique value of the vineyards to be expressed. Their goal is to showcase the potential of the tempranillo grape from this privileged region.
