Marqués de Terán Reserva 2016 is a single-varietal Tempranillo grown on vines located in the Rioja Alta subzone. It’s been aged for 18 months in American and French oak barrels and is complex on the nose, with a few tertiary notes (leather, blond tobacco). On the palate, it's silky with a long finish.
Marqués de Terán is a century-old brand that was revived in 2005 when the winery was built in the town of Ollauri, in the heart of Rioja Alta. The facilities are located underground inside a small hill, which allows the winery to operate by gravity and maintains temperature and humidity conditions naturally.
Sustainability is one of the winery's distinguishing features; in fact, it's the first winery in Europe to use geothermal energy. A traditional winemaking process is employed involving manual harvesting and several stages of sorting, which, combined with the latest technology, results in excellent wines that are highly representative of the area.
The winery is regarded as one of the architectural treasures of La Rioja due to its integration into the landscape and its functional design. Thanks to its architecture and the use of geothermal energy, as well as the manual harvesting process, Marqués de Terán succeeds in minimising its carbon footprint through a highly eco-efficient winemaking process that reduces its environmental impact and CO2 emissions.
